A walk on the beach
Report Date: May 17, 2009
It been a little slow. Not the fishing!!! But getting people to go fishing. After months of bad water rain and wind. It is finally starting to get better out there. So with some time off and good water conditions i went for a walk on the beach where i met two couples that wanted to go fishing. It's been a few days since i have been on the water so the bait had moved, but after two or three throws of the net and a trip to the live bait man, i managed to fill the bait well. After getting everyone on bored we headed out. I had planned to fish the bridge spans but found dive boats on it, so we fished some box cars in the area. On the first drop we got a 26" gag grouper and two red snapper in the 20-22"( cant wait for snapper season). We stayed there for a few more drops and managed to get one more gag for the table. its hard to get thru all the snapper to find the grouper. I feel that by making snapper season shorter the grouper in the area are receiving way to much pressure!!! Any way, I will stop preaching to the choir. We fished a few more spots in the area, but only managed to catch snapper, lots and lots of snapper, but no kings on this trip. Sorry no pics yet! I forgot my camera (my bad ), wont let that happen next time. All in all a good day to be on the water!!!! lots of the captains in the area are reporting kings everywhere!!!! and 10 pound Mahi Mahi on the weed line 3 miles of the beach. The water has started to turn blue and the fish are going off!!! The bay is starting to clear and reports of 50 to 80 trout in a day. WOW!!! good red fishing and they are being taken in there summer hot spots. spanish are big, With 5 pounders ready to eat any thing. Way off shore the wahoo are showing up, High speed troll them with a purple Yo' Zuri plug. Hopefully the weather will not mess it all up with a forecast of 6 to 7 ft seas and rain it does not look good. Any way, tight lines to all !!!
